AMC 8

Orange County Math Circle will be hosting the AMC 8 for all eligible students in 8th grade or below. Students may take the AMC 8 at only one location. If a student is found to have taken the same AMC 8 test more than once, that student will be disqualified by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). 

OCMC will charge $20 for each student taking the AMC 8 this year to cover administrative expenses and costs for other events. There will be no refunds for cancellations or no shows.

  • Date: Tuesday, November 15, 2016
  • Time: 6:00 PM-7:25 PM (Check in: 6:00 PM-6:30 PM. The test will take place from 6:40-7:25 PM)

What to Bring?


  • Number 2 Pencils and Erasers
  • No calculators, food, or cell phones permitted
  • Rulers and Protractors are optional 
  • Water is allowed

Orange County Math Circle and Orange County Math Council will be hosting the 2016 AMC 8 at Irvine Chinese School on November 15, 2016, from 6:00-7:30 PM. We welcome students from 6th to 8th grade as well as advanced elementary school students to participate. OCMC will charge $20 per participant to cover administrative expenses. Only online payment will be accepted; we accept credit card and paypal. 

Due to the venue capacity, a limited number of students will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Registration will close on Sunday October 23, 2016 at 11:59 PM, or when capacity is reachedStudents may take the 2016 AMC 8 at only one location. If a student is found to have taken the same AMC 8 test more than once, that student will be disqualified by Mathematical Association of America (MAA).

Only scratch paper, rulers, protractors, #2 pencils and erasers are allowed as aids. No calculators, food or cell phones will be allowed. Students may bring water to drink. All scratch paper will be provided. Please do not bring your own. 

Please note that parents and students may not contact MAA, Irvine Chinese School, or other organizations for questions. Please allow up to 4 weeks for MAA to process the score reports. We will email all participants their results once we receive the score reports from MAA.

Cancellation and No Show Policy 
   
Each time a student misses the exam without providing prior notice, another student loses the opportunity to take the AMC 8. Therefore, if you know that you will not be able to attend, please let us know as soon as possible and no later than 24 hours prior to the event so that we can take your name off the registration list and provide a spot to someone on the waitlist. No shows will be restricted from registering for future events. There will be no refunds for cancellations.

Waitlist and Standby Policy 
 
If registration closes early due to the capacity being reached, and you still wish to particiapte, sign up for the waitlist. Fill out this google form and if a spot opens up, we will let you know via email and/or phone. Understand that if you fail to respond  within 24 hours verifying your attendance, your seat will go to the next person on the waitlist. Lastly, we do not accept walk in registrants. Thank you for understanding! 
 
REGISTRATION HAS CLOSED
  • A Certificate of Distinction is given to all students who receive a perfect score.
  • An AMC 8 Winner Pin is given to the student(s) in each school with the highest score.
  • The top three students for each school section will receive respectively a gold, silver, or bronze Certificate for Outstanding Achievement.
  • An AMC 8 Honor Roll Certificate is given to all high scoring students.
  • An AMC 8 Merit Certificate is given to high scoring students who are in 6th grade or below.
