Math Team

The OCMC Math Team holds competition preparation classes to get high school students or advanced middle school students ready for national high school math competitions. The competitions that we prepare for include: Harvard-MIT Math Tournament (November 9), Caltech Harvey Mudd Math Competition (November 23), Stanford Math Tournament (February), and ARML Local (April 26-27). Over the course of the year, we will cover problem solving techniques from Algebra, Geometry, Number Theory, and Combinatorics.

The HMNT (Harvard MIT November Tournament)  is an annual math tournament held at Harvard or MIT. Competitors participate in two individual rounds in which they work on their own to solve difficult math problems, as well as two team rounds in which the entire team of six people works together to solve more challenging problems.

OCMC is proud to announce that we will be sending two teams to the competition.

2015 ARML Local

ARML-style Math Contest

Sunday, April 26, 2015

3 PM to 6 PM

Northwood Campus: 820 Roosevelt

This free event is open to all high school students (and exceptional middle school students) on a first-come, first-served basis. Students are encouraged (but not required) to make teams beforehand with other students. The registration deadline is Saturday, April 18th, 2015.

ARML Local is held annually by high schools and math organizations throughout the country. This year, the Orange County Math Circle will be a host site in Southern California.
The contest format is similar to the national ARML tournament in June. Students will take part in an individual test as well as two team rounds and three relay rounds. Teams will consist of 6 students maximum.

3:00 PM - 4:10 PM: Individual Round
4:10 PM - 4:40 PM: Team Round
4:40 PM - 5:25 PM: Theme Round
5:25 PM - 6:00 PM: Relay Round

The ARML organization aggregates all local contest results, and compiles a list of top individuals and teams nationwide. ARML awards the top two teams and the highest scorer in the individual round.

Students interested in competing as a team should register individually. They will be able to form their own teams on site.
